Corona Chronicles (Ep.22) - The Sweet Message

Various speakers, Revelation 10:7-11, 14 April 2020

Today we learn that Christians have the sweet message of the gospel and the task of taking it to others, in episode 22 of Corona Chronicles.

Revelation 10:7-11

but that in the days of the trumpet call to be sounded by the seventh angel, the mystery of God would be fulfilled, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.

Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, “Go, take the scroll that is open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.” So I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll. And he said to me, “Take and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.” 10 And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter. 11 And I was told, “You must again prophesy about many peoples and nations and languages and kings.”

So hello again and welcome back to the corona chronicles. Yesterday's was was quite short and and sweet. We were looking at Jesus as he sort of stands on the world, on the land and the sea in sovereignty and authority, and he's brought with him, a little scroll, and we were wondering what that was about, and we get to to find out about it today. So I'm gonna be reading from chapter 10 a revelation starting from verse 8. Then the voice that I heard from heaven spoke to me once more, go take scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.

So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth, it will be as sweet as honey. I took the little scroll from the angel's hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in in my mouth.

When I'd eaten it, my stomach turned sour. Then I was told you must prophesy again about many people's nations, languages, and King's. Yeah. So this little scroll, he takes it. This bitter sweet thing, isn't it?

Mhmm. I mean, it's interesting he's told to go and take it and he he he takes it. And it's it's clearly a message even though it's called Little. I mean, I quite like that because you know God uses little things. Yes.

The despise things and -- Yes. -- the things that are not we're told God uses. And that's why it's fantastic. You know, whoever you are, you may feel small and little and despised and almost are not. But God uses people like like that.

Mhmm. And that's who he loves to use. Mhmm. Because he gets greater glory, doesn't This little despise thing. Yes.

Yeah. You know, God uses. Yeah. So it has to be God. So he takes this little scroll and it's bittersweet.

Lovely to taste, honey in the mouth. Sweet is anything but turns his stomach sour. And I and I guess this is this the gospel, isn't it? Because there's there's a real sweetness to the gospel in that in this world of sin and suffering, we we have salvation. But we all know in the Christian life, there are many trials and sufferings that we go through as as Christians.

And it sort of sits with you and and lives in sort of with you in that sense. It's nice it's nice that Jesus says, take an e It kinda reminds me of the last supper in a sense. Mhmm. It's it's an invitation to partake in this. Yeah.

It's I want you to to have this. Well, that's what Christianity is though, isn't it? So it's it's not it's Christianity is not just a sort of philosophy or a body of information that I choose to believe or follow. It's not like a sort of set of set of rules or just But it is actually a personal taking isn't it? And that is what Christ says, you know, eat of me, eat my flesh in that sense.

So it's it's imbibing the truth. So a real Christian is someone who's taken this truth that lives in them. Yeah. All voice. Yeah.

He would just say, look, here's the scroll. Do you agree with this? Yes. Philosophically. Yes.

Yes. Yes. Yes. And then and and then he doesn't say photocopy the scroll and then just go give the scroll out. Right.

However good that may be. But it's actually our job as Christians to know the bitter sweet of the gospel. It's sweet to the mouth but we might be martyred or killed or laughed at or mocked or you know destroyed as as many Christians are. Yeah. I guess that's the difference between perhaps like a historian or someone who is an academic, who academically understands Christianity.

Yeah. They do not live and embody it. They could tell you everything about it. Yeah. But they haven't taken it in.

It's not sort of they they haven't yet partaken in that nature with Jesus. Yeah. So God uses things like people like us who have taken in this truth, this gospel, that is as sweet as anything. I mean, the fact that our sins are forgiven -- Mhmm. -- that we're made right with God, that actually we're sorted.

The final judgment is sorted because of the Lord Jesus Christ. I mean, that's as sweet as anything, isn't it? Yeah. I don't have to worry about the angel blowing the seventh seventh trumpet. Yeah.

Because actually and I'm not under the plagues of this world. I mean, I might physically die of the plagues of this world. But spiritually, I'm alive and they'll be given a new body. So it's just sweet as anything. Mhmm.

But where it's sour, is when people reject us and, you know, hate us for it. Yeah. That sort of thing. It is a far cry from the the people in the last in the last chapter chapter 9 who wanted to die. Mhmm.

They have there's no sweetness there. That? No. They're longing for something but because they don't believe it exists old or refuse to believe it exists, they're they're missing out. And then it ends this little section with verse 11 that says, then I was told, you must prophesy again.

About many peoples, nations, languages, and kings. And this is the kind of the great commission. We go out and tell people about this scroll, this message. And it's it's the ones who've eaten it, who are the ones who were told to go and do it. Yeah.

It's not memorize this -- Yeah. -- like be able to just verbally say it and then go and tell others. It's a live and breathe it, have have a reality to it, and then that's the only qualification you need to tell other people about it. Yeah. Does it live in you?

So in these days, we've got opportunities. Perhaps to, you know, share this, share the corona chronicles around to your friends. You know, God have a go. You know, share some of the truths of the gospel or some sermons or talks or passages of the Bible. You know, spread this around.

And you'll rejoice in doing that as you spread that around to all different people groups. How do I do that? And then and then see what happens and some of it will be sweet and some of it will be bitter. But our job is to do this. He's he's come held up delayed the judgment -- Yes.

-- for this opportunity for us to share the gospel. So we hope you do that. See you next time.
