Corona Chronicles (Ep.21) - He Roars

Various speakers, Revelation 10:1-7, 13 April 2020

In today's Corona Chronicles we find hope with a glorious picture of Jesus in Revelation 10. Listen to Ben and Pete discuss what the imagery means.

Revelation 10:1-7

10:1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, with a rainbow over his head, and his face was like the sun, and his legs like pillars of fire. He had a little scroll open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea, and his left foot on the land, and called out with a loud voice, like a lion roaring. When he called out, the seven thunders sounded. And when the seven thunders had sounded, I was about to write, but I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said, and do not write it down.” And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven and swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and what is in it, the earth and what is in it, and the sea and what is in it, that there would be no more delay, but that in the days of the trumpet call to be sounded by the seventh angel, the mystery of God would be fulfilled, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.

Here we are again, but we're in chapter 10 now and it's very exciting stuff. We saw last time about the judgments that were coming that were meant to warn people and that people didn't repent at the judgments, but we sort of go back in time a little bit now and we go back before the judgments come and the the 6 angel blows his trunk it and the 4 angels come to bring disaster or mankind. We're going back to see that God was already planning some and planning a message for these dark times, which gives us great hope. So chapter 10 and verse 1. Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven.

He was robed in a cloud with a rainbow above his head. His face was like the sun and his legs were like fiery pillars. He was holding a little scroll which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of 7 Thunder spoke.

And when the Southern Thunder spoke, I was about to write, but I heard a voice from heaven say, seal up what the 7 thunders have said, do not write it down. Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven and he and he swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them. The earth and all that is in it and the sea and all that is in it and said there will be no more delay. But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished. Just as he announced to his servants, the prophets.

Wow. There's good news here. Yeah. It's such a difference from what we've been reading in the last chapters, isn't it? Here we see Jesus himself.

I mean, he's robed in a in a cloud and the cloud is behind a picture of God in this in this world. Think about the tabernacle and the and the ark and God's presence there. And then he's got a rainbow above his head. And a rainbow as we know from Scripture means God's covenant promise to to the earth. And we see rainbows everywhere now, don't we?

And and actually, rainbows have changed their meaning slightly now because they sort of mean hope again, don't they? Which is which is quite nice. It's a little bit closer to to this. And we see his face like the sun and we think about the glory of God sort of shining in his in his face there. And he's standing on the the land and the sea.

So he's he's established and king over the whole earth. Yeah. And he's here, which is And and he's come for the purposes of this little scroll. So he's ruling all of the earth in all his glory, but he's come and I love this little scroll -- Yeah. -- to give to us.

Yeah. But before we know what that little scroll is, there's these voice of a lion. Yep. You know, he roars. That that that's like a narnia, isn't it?

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Whereas land roars and everybody pays tension. Yes.

You think there's you think the bad guys are in control and then Azlam turns up and roars and you realize he were actually Yeah. He stops everything. Yeah. And there is delay. Stop.

Hold back the final judgment -- Yep. -- because there's this scroll actually to be well, as we're gonna see probably time to be opened and and spread around with good news in it. But before he does that, the the the voice thunders, and then you've got this sort of he's about to write down what the what the funders are saying. Yeah. And he's told, hey, stop it.

What do you really know that's about? I don't know. Well, we don't know really. No. And that's the whole point, I think.

Yeah. I guess I guess it's hey, there are mysteries in this world that are going on that you really shouldn't investigate. Yeah. God is god. You know, there are things that he's doing that you don't know about, go with that which God is revealed rather than rather than, you know, trying to speculate and find out things that he hasn't revealed.

I think it's that. Yeah. There's probably humidity there as well, isn't there? We know we know from scripture that there are things that angels long to look into. So none none of his creatures, humans, angels, whatever, know everything and we don't need to.

I I guess is is what we can take from this. God reveals what we need to know. So here he is then. And then he sort of makes an oath before God, I think verse 6 is quite interesting, and and he swore by him who lives forever and ever and who created the heavens and all that is in them and and so forth. And he's sort of standing up making an oath before God that the the delay won't carry on because this scroll that's gonna have this message in it is about to be revealed.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And is there an excitement there like that? Yeah.

I've been waiting for this moment -- Mhmm. -- and now there's no more delay. It's here. Yeah. Which is which is exciting.

Yeah. And it's father son and spirit are the ones that are going to bring this bring this, but he's gonna use the church. So in these days of coronavirus where there is life, you know, going and people are thinking of death and stuff, It's it's hold hold everything up. So so before even coronavirus, before the world existed, hold everything up, because there is this scroll I want the world to hear. Yeah.

We'll hear about that tomorrow, I think. Yeah.
