Corona Chronicles (Ep.10) - Glory, Honour, Praise

Various speakers, Revelation 5:11-14, 31 March 2020

We are going through tough times, but there is something and someone greater that we can rejoice in. Corona Chronicles, episode 10, focuses in on the crescendo of worship found in Revelation chapter 5.

Revelation 5:11-14

11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might
and honor and glory and blessing!”

13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

14 And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Welcome again to the Corona Chronicles. We are still in chapter 5 of the book of Revelation. And we've just been really enjoying working our way through this stunning scene and witnessing the Lord Jesus in all of his power upon the throne. And we're going to finish off that chapter now and we are going to be reading from verse 11 through to the end of the chapter. Then and this is after the amazing song that we just saw last week.

Not yesterday. Sorry. Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels numbering thousands upon thousands and 10000 times 10000. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying, worthy is the lamb who was slain.

To receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the see and all that is in them saying to him who sits on the throne and to the lamb, be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever. The 4 living creatures said, amen and the elders fell down and worshiped. Well, there's a lot of worship going on. I think, look, I mean, the whole thing is if you if you go back to the beginning of the chapter, there there was weeping going on.

Mhmm. I mean, John was uncontrollably weeping because a voice had gone out to the heavens and the earth and under the earth, is there anyone worthy? Then we discover there is 1 worthy and that is the lion lamb, the 1 that would slain died on the cross for us. And then you've got in verse 13. All of the creatures in the heavens and the earth and under the earth and they're all finally singing.

Mhmm. And there's joy and praise why because the scroll has been opened -- Mhmm. -- because the plan of God is is is set forth -- Mhmm. -- in the Lord Jesus Christ. And that genuinely brings joy.

Mhmm. You know, Paul can say at the end of Philipp, rejoice in the Lord. Again, I say rejoice. He said sort of, you know, keep on rejoicing. We used to that used to be an old song when I first became a Christian and it was what they called around.

It used to have these songs that were called around. Someone starts off a line and another group starts off a line and another group. And it was rejoicing the law. It always and again, I say rejoice and then another person would come in and then you would just go round and round and round and you would just sing this rejoice in the Lord. And that's what's going on this, this this as we were saying seismic explosion of wow.

Yeah. And and John seems to be in this vision able to go in and out, doesn't he? To see with the very narrow lens and to see with the very wide angle lens. Because in the earlier part of the chapter, he's able to look and see this incredible ruler on on the throne by the Thrones. It's the kind of narrow lens if you like.

But here in verse 11, it's like he's standing back with a wide angle lens or he's gone up in a drone and he's able to now see the whole picture. And he's seeing 10000 times 10000 times 10000 angels. There's this What is that number? It's just that's just I don't know. Yeah.

It's worth working out. Someone can comment, I'm sure you can tell us. But the point is that he's It's just almost every heavenly being imaginable is there. No 1 has missed out on this ceremony and they are all praising praising the lamb. That's amazing.

Yeah. And the lamb who was slain is that 1 that now is exalted that you were talking about in Philippians 2 yesterday. So worthy is the lamb who was slain to receive. And these are these are ruling words on you. The lamb who was slain is worthy to receive.

Power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. Mhmm. You know, It's like he doesn't know where to stop. Yeah. Which word do I use?

Yeah. You have to use them all? Yeah. He's often like that. Isn't he a journalist trying to get everything down with the vocabulary that he has.

And just again, the emphasis here is on the fact that this is the lamb who was slain. And so his sufferings are coming back into full view again here. And it was interesting even in in Jesus' ministry. On earth, people so often confuse this, didn't they? They had a wrong idea of a a messiah and a king.

And they thought that the way he should show his power was through strength and throwing his enemies away and breaking down their tall towers. But Jesus was always trying to say, look, the way in which I conquer is through my sufferings. And it's only really in the throne room where that seems to be properly understood. Everyone now gets that. That that that path to the cross was the path to the throne.

And it's the path that we follow, isn't it? You know, through many trials we must enter the kingdom of God, suffering now, difficulties now. We're in a season of that together, but 1 day we know we will we will reign with the king suffering and then glory. Well, that's why, you know, the the tick -- Mhmm. -- and and the Nike tick is actually a a really good symbol of Christianity.

And I love that about tick because a tick starts here, doesn't it? It goes down. Yep. In order to go up, it goes down. And that's what Jesus did.

He died on the cross. He went down to to take our sin and then rose again and then that tick carries on forever. And that's that's the overcoming and that's the overcoming word that you get in revelation. So then we end then, with to him who sits on the throne and to the lamb. And here we go again.

Yeah. Be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever. Just in case you haven't got it. Yeah. I mean, even if you knew absolutely nothing about the bible, you couldn't read chapter 5 and come out thinking the lamb is not an important person.

Could you? I mean, you know, he would at least come away thinking, wow, they really like this lamb. Yeah. You know, he seems to be really, really amazing. And I think that's the point of the repetition, isn't it?

We're constantly being taken into this concert hall. It has become, hasn't it like a concert hall? And we're listening in to these songs which just keep flowing out of the people towards the throne. And the point is that we we too in this time of difficulty need to see the glory of the Lord Jesus. And say in verse 14 with the living creatures, amen.

Yeah. The amen. This is true Lord. Amen Lord, and we wanna worship you. Yeah.

I mean, it's interesting it ends with our men as this like that fantastic messiah. Mhmm. But handles messiah. And at the end of Hand was Messiah, you've got the r men. And it just goes and it goes on for, I don't know.

It's not I I heard it in the Albert horn. It goes on and on. It's just Yeah. And then the ball come in and more come in and it's just a crescendo of Yes. This is right.

This is what it's about. Yeah. Yep. Fantastic. See you tomorrow.
