The rainbow has been a symbol
Since almost right back at the start
It’s a reminder from our loving God
“Do not fear, take heart”
You see since the fall of Adam
There has been no sinless man (Romans 3: 10)
But despite our sinful rebellion
God has always had a plan
In Noah’s time the rainbow
Marked God’s promise to mankind
That never again would He use a flood
To wipe out what he designed (Genesis 9:13-15)
God had to bring the flood
To show there’s consequence to sin
But there is an alternative
If we will trust in Him
When God painted the rainbow
He was turning arrow and bow around
Pointing them up to heaven
Rather than to us down on the ground
For there was one who could free us
From the consequences we deserve
Many years after Noah,
He came down from heaven to serve
He came the only sinless one
He came to take our place!
So we could become sinless
And feel our God’s embrace
So the judgement that the flood depicts
Doesn’t have to be our end
God’s mercy sent the rainbow
Which means instead we can be God’s friend.
So every time you see a rainbow
Remember the promise it represents
A righteous life for everyone
Who turns to God and repents.
I pray that you will come to know
This servant as your own
Our gracious saviour Jesus Christ
Who for all our sins atoned. (John 3:16)
