New events for the new term

In March 2015 Cornerstone Church Teddington hosted a series of topical talks in Costa Coffee.

We tried to address some of the Big Questions that people have about God, life, suffering and personal significance.

God was very kind to us over that month. The venue was (and is) brilliant, the staff were friendly, the coffee was good and over the course of the month, we had a number of local people coming along to participate.

In fact, we enjoyed our time there so much that we’ve decided to return to Costa this term.

What’s it all about?

From the 17th of September onwards we’ll be meeting every Thursday night from 7.30pm – 8.30pm in Costa Coffee on Broad Street, Teddington, TW11 8QZ.

This term we’ll be dealing with just one big question:

‘Is God’s Ancient Law Good for Our Modern Age?’

Under that heading we’ll be discussing one of God’s 10 commandments every week (see the flyer for details).

Why the 10 Commandments? Because they are hugely significant.

Whether people know it or not, they have shaped everything from our civil law to our history to our music. But they are more than just influential morals. They are the living words of our Creator. They are a bond of love between God and the people He saved. They show us how to love God and how to love each other. They transcend time and culture like no other words can.

But despite that, very few people know them today. OK, most people know 2 or 3:

‘You shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness etc’.

But beyond that they’re largely forgotten, even amongst Christians.

And that’s why we’re hoping to get people discussing them again. Each week we’ll kick off with an informal discussion:

‘What does this law mean, how does it apply today, do we think it’s a good law for our age? What questions do we have about this law?’

Then we’ll listen to an explanation of each law from the Bible and after that, we’ll have an opportunity for more discussion, feedback and questions.

Who’s it for?

It’s for anybody who wants to come. If you’re a Christian who wants to rediscover these wonderful words, you’re welcome.

If you’re not a Christian, but you’re curious as to what these commandments are all about, you’re welcome too – you won’t be asked to read/pray or sing!

Why are we doing it?

Because we, and millions of others around the world, have discovered that these Ancient Laws are not a set of harsh, restrictive commands from a distant deity but are liberating laws of love from the God who made us.

In every word of the 10 Commandments we are confronted by the glorious, holy God of the universe. In every word of the 10 Commandments we see our own failure to keep these laws. And in every word of the 10 Commandments we see our need for Jesus Christ, the perfect Law Keeper and Saviour.

We’d love to see you there.
