Christian fellowship is found in many forms. It may be experienced in a small-group Bible study, in a lunchtime meal with church family, or in an intimate conversation with another Christian. Whatever shape it takes, a key part of fellowship is interacting with other believers and being surrounded by good spiritual company.
Cornerstone’s monthly ‘Game Socials’ provide one of the best examples of this kind of fellowship.
Every second Monday of the month, an enthusiastic group of people gather together at the Hub to partake in a couple hours of fun by playing a wide variety of board games. No matter how weary and tired they may feel, this dedicated group meets each month, without fail, in order to wind down and ease the stress of a long and busy day. It’s a time for them to relax their minds, chat with old friends, and to warmly welcome newcomers, whilst playing an array of different games.
With tables already set up, and refreshments on hand throughout the evening, Game Night is under way!
C. S. Lewis once said, “Friendship is born at the moment when one man says to another ‘What! You too? I thought that no one but myself…’ ”
Sometimes the best way to connect with a person is to just have fun together and enjoy each other’s company, whether that involves rolling a pair of dice on a board or dealing out a hand of playing cards.
Although these evenings may not be devoted to deep Biblical talks, there is still, indeed, a strong focus on showing the love that God calls Christians to demonstrate towards one another. Interacting with fellow believers and being a part of the church community brings praise to God and honours Him.
Yes, even sitting around a table to play games can be loving fellowship. It’s amazing to see the friendships that form whilst you’re making up new words in Scrabble or whilst you’re fiercely battling on to claim a victory in Catan.
Game Socials are all about bringing people together in a positive atmosphere. They’re about strengthening friendships and creating new ones, whilst having a good time too! So why not come along and join us!
