10 Questions for Atheists

For any worldview to be taken seriously, there are a number of questions it needs to be able answer. Atheism is no exception.

Some of you might brush this off with jokes instead. But for those of you prepared to think honestly about what you believe, have a read of these 10 questions and see if your worldview can stand the test.

Question 1. How do you know there is no God?

How can you be sure?
To know that there are no black swans you need to know about every swan that exists. To say that there is no such being as God similarly seems to require that you know everything about the universe and beyond.
Can you be sure it’s not just that you’ve never met him? Or maybe because you don’t want to know?

Question 2. Where did everything come from?

Why is there anything rather than nothing? What started it all? How does something come from nothing? Why are things ordered and regular?
Can such a universe as ours really be simply a product of chance?

Question 3. Why are there human beings?

Why are we here? Can we really be a product of chance? Why are there beings who are conscious, who understand, and who produce scientific discoveries and explanations?
What makes us special? Or are we really no different from animals?

Question 4. What is the point of life?

What is the purpose of my life? Why am I here? What does it mean? What is the significance of my existence?
What hope is there in life? Where do I get hope from? Why do we value life?*

Question 5. What is a person?

What is a relationship? Why is there love? In a world where survival of the fittest rules, what gives me the capacity and need for friendship?

Question 6. Why was Hitler wrong?

What made Hitler’s crimes wrong? How can anything be really right or wrong? Why is wife abuse or child abuse wrong? Why is it not Ok to disagree? Is morality just a matter of opinion?

Question 7. Why are you scared of death?

What happens when you die? Is death the end? Why does it matter? And why are you scared?

Question 8. Why do people need to believe in God?

Why are there so few atheists? How could humans come up with such an idea? Why is it so important to so many people?

Question 9. What is the Bible?

Who wrote this book? Why does it have a common overall theme? What makes it different to all other books? Can it all be a mistake?

Question 10. Who is Jesus?

What makes this man different?

Jesus claimed to be the Son of God. He said that his mission was to pay the price for our sins by dying on the cross and being raised to life. He promised that whoever believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.

Can he really be who he claims he is? Or is just a fraud? If he’s not who he claimed, then who was he? But if he is, will you put your trust in him?
