On May 5th, we joined our Hope Church and Co-mission brothers and sisters for an Away Day to remember at Cumnor House, Sussex. The day was packed more densely than a sardine tin on the Northern Line, with such offerings as therapeutic Pilates, learning some New Testament Greek, jamming and/or ramming in the Ramjamathon, declaring Nerf war, and some wonderful insights on regulating our emotions and applying the gospel in the workplace. We made memories, enjoyed fellowship, worshipped with our hearts and voices, and filled an otherwise chilly day with the warmth and love that only God’s people can know.
The team running the day and the seminars worked diligently and dutifully to deliver a wonderful environment for the whole church to enjoy. It’s thanks to them that we were able to witness a particularly indecisive Malaysian starfruit and an artistic rendition of Pete composed entirely of chunky geometry.
And it’s to Pete that we owe our most important memory of the day: as he hands the proverbial torch to Tom, we remember our brother’s many fantastic years of service to the Lord’s people. He has been nothing short of an inspiration: a good and faithful servant who has most certainly earned our respect – and we pray that this small reprieve from the stresses of pastoral work will do him a world of good.
Please keep our brother Tom in your prayers as he takes over as chief undershepherd, ministering to the Lord’s flock with compassion, zeal and faithfulness. The future of Cornerstone Church is looking bright!
