Activities
This is a short meeting with prayer and a 30 minute Bible talk, with a question-time afterward. We are currently going through the Bible book of Romans. There is tea/coffee and homemade cakes to munch on as we sit together round tables. At the end of the meeting (9.15 pm) many of us continue chatting over at the pub.
International Women’s Group: Thursday 1pmThis is a home-group style meeting in New Malden. Refreshments are followed by a one-hour group Bible study at a pace and level of English suitable for people who are learning.
Prayer MeetingOn the first Wednesday of each month the whole church meets for prayer. This is an informal meeting but a very important one. We gather together to take communion, praise our God and ask for his help.
BreakfastsCornerstone is committed to helping men and women be all that they can be and all God wants them to be. So each month on a Saturday morning, we alternate between a men’s breakfast and a women’s breakfast, where we meet to discuss a topic and eat - bacon and eggs for the men; cereals, fruit, croissants and coffee for the women.
Children
Children and our youth are an integral part of our church family at Cornerstone. We have a great team who enthusiastically teach the Bible to children. All our team have undergone the required checks with the Criminal Records Bureau. And we have a number of qualified teachers involved. We have the following meetings each week for children and youth:
CrecheFor 0-2 year olds there is a crèche in Bedelsford School’s wonderful soft play room. This could arguably be the best crèche room in any church anywhere in the world! 3-4 year olds have a special class including a mixture of play and very simple elements of Christian teaching supported by craft activities.
Cornerstone KidsChildren of reception age up to 11 have Sunday School, currently taught in three age-specific classes. Here the emphasis is on understanding the bible at an appropriate level and thinking through what it means for the children’s lives. We aim to teach clearly and simply, but our systematic approach of working through key topics and books of the bible means children can go surprisingly deep! We work alongside parents, aiming to complement rather than replace their own Christian upbringing.
PathfindersFrom 11-14 the Pathfinder group kicks in. They meet during the main morning service at Cornerstone. Focussing on the bible, there is good discussion, interaction and encouragement to respond to the Christian faith as individuals of increasing understanding and maturity. The Sunday morning sessions are complemented by regular socials, aimed simply at having great fun in growing friendship.
Students
Being away from home for the first time can be a daunting thing and many of us miss the comfort of home and the security of our families – Cornerstone and its members aims to be your home away from home.
Kingston University students are very important to us and you will find that many of our 20s-to-30s age-group studied at Kingston University. Lots of students are actively involved in our services, and are integral to the make up of our church family. Cornerstone would not be Cornerstone without its students.
